In this video, we’ll be showing you how to use Google Docs offline.
Google Docs is a great word processor that can also be used offline without much hassle. You don’t even need to install the desktop application Google Drive. If you want to edit your Docs offline, there is a solution to that and we’ll show you how to do it. Let’s set up offline editing for Google Docs.
1. You will need Google Chrome, this is the only way to do offline editing. Download and install Chrome if you haven’t already.
2. After installing Chrome, click the three dots in the top right, hover over More tools, then click Extensions.
3. You will notice that I have the Google Docs Offline extension. Make sure this is enabled, this comes built-in with new Chrome installations.
4. Navigate to Google Drive.
5. Click the Settings gear icon in the top-right.
6. Check the box marked Offline and hit Done. With this you can create and edit documents offline now.
7. Right-click the document you want to edit offline.
8. Click Available offline.
9. Now if I disconnect from the internet and restart Chrome you can see that Google Drive still opens.
10. Click Ready for offline at the top and then Offline preview.
11. The Document that we made available offline can now be edited.
Don’t forget to set up documents you want to edit offline beforehand!
