Linus: nearly drops macbook and doesn't even notice – 6:30
Windows is better.
Mac hardware is better.
Why does life have to be so complicated?
Reliability: I just replaced my late 2010 iMac with a new M2 Mac mini. I am probably a casual user/photographer so editing photos is the most intense thing I did and do with my Mac. That old iMac worked fine albeit a bit slow in the last few years. It still works, but I still needed a new one finally. On the flip side, I got a laptop at a job that was a Windows machine. I had it about two years and it was already slowing down and taking forever to boot up, laggy, etc. You get what you pay for and the premium cost of an Apple machine is worth it in my opinion.
Many of those can be solved with 3rd party apps.
…Like OpenShell can fix the ads issue with start menu.
…I forgot the name but you can switch over mouse/keyboards to multiple computers. I think it was one of your sponsors or someone else's
… Doesn't windows already support headphones, mice, keyboard, other accessaries? And you dont even need a dongle in most cases.
… Too la z 2 list many others
Some just need some configuring out of the box.
…Like Bluetooth file transfer (it's been a thing way before smartphones) or use FTP/WebDAV/SMB for faster speeds.
it just costs too much money. and the software library (in the past) was limited. And of course my hatred for Apple because of what it did to Apple ][ and every f'ing proprietary piece of crap they build.
6:25 — I learned FCP 5, 6, 7, & X first, but it took me a long time to understand Premiere and haven't even gotten used to others like DaVinci Resolve, or Blender, or any other video editor + motion graphics creator.
7:48 — Macs are indeed expensive but pay for themselves overtime. In 2014, I had a customer come in with an *iBook* from 1999 with MacOS X v 10.3.9 in terrific condition trying to connect to wi-fi, which would've been the only thing to stop it from being used even longer. Macs last for a LONG time.
Macs used to be the king of video editing when they made the full blown version of Final Cut Pro. What happened? Did Adobe end up beating Apple at their own game? No. Apple one day just said they’d rather market to prosumers than professionals and they intentionally dumbed down Final Cut Pro.
Having worked on a Mac for over a year I've gotta say Preview is an incredible application. It really does just about everything, and editing fillable .pdf files was especially handy. It's also responsible for handling document scanning AND you can create multi-page .pdf files with it! Try doing that on Windows without slitting your wrists, I dare you.
I’ve been using apple since pre-iMac days (the days of beige boxes and apple clones! In fact before then when they were black and white) – it’s so nice seeing a tech channel treating their products seriously instead of dismissing them outright. So many comments when I was younger of “why don’t you get a real computer”
i'm convinced that apple is made for Éta Rds
I'm not surprised.
Thank god, I made the right decision of using a Windows laptop and a MacBook, proof:
“Here’s why macOS is better than Windows in every way!”
Me: Wow, you’re right! proceeds to continue to use windows
Core audio framework, lowers audio latency for music applications, for music producers and artists the premium price for MacOs is worth every penny. Truly a shame windows hasn't even tried to compete in this realm
For me, it’s Apple’s undeniably fantastic suite of accessibility features. I’m visually impaired, and these products have allowed me to work and create like no others. I would even confidently argue that nothing in the industry can remotely compare; especially when you consider the rest of the things mentioned (the ecosystem, seamless and efficient design, universally user-friendly interfaces). I think this quote from Jony Ive about Apple’s design philosophy perfectly summarises why I love using these products:
”I think there is a profound and enduring beauty in simplicity…in clarity …in efficiency. True simplicity is derived from so much more than just the absence of clutter and ornamentation… it's about bringing order to complexity.”
USB port and gaming the should have it back on their laptop
The have to build their laptop for gaming every body reject them for gaming
Ok
Ooh, let me list them!

I've owned a MacBook Pro for five years, finding myself using bootcamp for Windows 10/11 nine out of ten times for:
1. easier multitasking for clerical work (e.g. Word & Chrome side by side with easy taskbar controls);
2. more logical button arrangements & less bugs on Office programs (e.g. the wrapping image functions failed to work on macOS Word);
3. versatility to add-on or third-party programs (e.g. my kyocera printer driver has less functions in its mac version, harder to compile A3 booklet)
4. gaming & customization, of course.
The only reason for me to use macOS is Final Cut Pro. Even Photoshop works better on Windows side, to me at least.
Besides, Windows touch screen functionality is way better than iPadOS' which doesn't give you a full desktop experience. I'm way happier with my Surface Pro recently than an iPad Air (USB-C).
My science friend also enjoys those programs for scientists on his Windows machine.
In short, Windows is more versatile while macOS is simpler.
Even as a non developer I love that Mac is BSD because it means that there’s 50 years of programs to play around with. Sure I might not want to use Vim, but Nano is actually decent for taking notes.
Mac os is for dummies, not for power users!
Even KdeConnect can share content and clipboard content between a pc or laptop and a phone.
Cant understand the sense of awesome that you have on that.
This did not age well. None of these features are unique or better than alternative now.
Don't give me this apple tax up front bs because it was already a problem before Windows got even shittier… but if you need to tell yourself that go right ahead lol.
Launchy for windows does spotlight
also Everything for windows very handy
launchy is abandoned but someone forked on GH
"…or if you wanna fire up a game"
shows a game with a native mac version
Privacy arument gone, apparently they collect information even if you turn it off.
Terminal terminal terminal!! Also apple silicon/M1,M2
Oh packaging software lol. Well great their should be even more packaged software also I found it easier to find free apps for Android in general compared to iPhone.
My dream
A powerful gaming pc
A macbook

The way you said "better.." PC user at heart. 😛
One other benefit to Time Machine is the ability to not only restore from a backup, but to also set up a completely NEW Mac from a backup, a feature I have used to upgrade coworkers to a new computer without really disrupting their workflow for hours
Pro tip. Asus rog pc’s tend to get rid of all that bloatware and ads and crap a lot of windows like to have preloaded (cough cough hp and dell)
Apple makes great phones, but honestly everything else is garbage let’s be serious.
All of these already exist in Linux, if just spend a couple days learning just like you would switching to any other OS. Ecosystem is practically the same with KDE/GS Connect, Spotlight search is everywhere and much more powerful than Mac OS's. Productivity in Linux is the best it can be, (especially in GNOME) as it has a lot of different desktops you can switch between as you please. Updates and reliability are as you want them, get arch if you want the newest packages/rolling release, debian for maximum stability, (older packages) and there's a hell of a lot in between as well.
Time machine exists in most Linux distributions as well, but I've never needed it.
With all of mac OS's upsides, Linux also offers the best privacy, security, and customization because of it's open source nature.
The single upside windows has is compatibility, Mac OS has none.
RIP Bootcamp
he only told the good stuff theres so much bad about apple
Although a bunch of people love the fact that your texts and phone calls are all connected directly to your computer. It's actually a huge cybersecurity risk and many cyber professionals will strongly advise against linking these to your mac book. The reason is in case of high jacking. If a hacker is able to hijack control your computer, you've now also given them full access to all the of the 2FA codes that are either sent to you via text or over a call, so they could theoretically get into any account on your device that uses phone communication to verify its you.
I felt windiows mangement is hard with mac , when you connect to multiple monitors .like move to screen1 or screen2
One thing I HATE about windows is drivers. On MacOS everything just works. I wanted to play a game so I installed Bootcamp on my Mac, and it took multiple hours to figure out how to get the game to run, but eventually I was able to find the drivers and got it working. Oh, and I hate Edge. It constantly bugs you about how great it is, and you cannot remove it. Yes, you can't remove safari on Mac, but #1 – it's actually a good browser and #2 – just remove it from the dock and change the default browser and you'll forget it ever existed. I could literally go on and on. MacOS is just better in almost every way.
